Entropy's Child
12 X 12 oil and paper on linoleum

A symbol of life and change, the leaf is a metamorphosis. Blowing around in chaos, it is an identity lost. The fossil essence of the leaf parallels the skeletal structure.

Eternal
12 X 12 acrylic on linen

A symbolic, organic image takes on a new meaning seen another way. The essence of the core represents reaching into the inside. Removing layers, we realize that something beautiful and vital still exists, although it takes on a different form. If we look at what lies beneath, a gift was given in disguise.

Eve's Morning
36 X 48 oil on canvas
Transcending to another world, mourners want to wake up from the nightmare or not awaken from their dreams. It is a time of feeling very exposed and surrendering to fate. A higher power offers a feeling of tranquillity, because it is the beginning of the end of the beginning.

Necropolis
36 X 48 oil and paper on canvas
A betrayal against humanity took place - a dream had gone wrong. Rising above, trying to stand strong, we triumph. Through the suffering and pain, a resurrection took place. By cutting away the outer layer we find the truth within.

Vigilance

36 X 48 oil on canvas
Now on guard, there is a false sense of security around us. With the attack, there was an attempt to destroy us. However, we are still standing. We may be somewhat broken, but our hope and patriotism carry us through. Fires may burn around us, but the fires within us burn stronger. Buildings collapsed, but our spiritual faith was rebuilt. We lost our securities and privileges, but our freedom rises above all.

Vitality
36 X 24 oil on canvas
This hopeful being has a strong life blood running through it. Even though it is raw, an optimism prevails. People's goodness surfaced through the evil. Many were able to really see each other for the first time. In some ways Americans have shut down; in other ways we have grown. Most importantly, we have learned to live each day anew.

Solace
24 X 48 oil, acrylic on canvas
Chaos is around us. Frustration is pent up within. Now is the time to be strong. We're being ripped apart, and our hearts are being torn out by inhumane acts that don't seem real.

Entropy
15X36 oil on canvas
Process, materials, and subject matter for this piece, demonstrates the link between science and art. Representation of the past, present and future is evident in the portrayal of the fossil-like, skeletal image. The subject matter appears dark; however, there is an underlying hope. The format of the piece is like looking in a mirror, reflecting who we are, what we are made up of and where we came from. A fascination with physiology, researching human specimen under a microscope and viewing images of dinosaur fossils provided ideas and textures. The process of adding and subtracting mixed media relates to the human existence.

This body of work, primarily a reflection on the events of 9/11/2001, explores the uncertainty
of life. The ranges in style parallel the myriad of my emotions. To the
audience, there may be a disconnect, however the paintings are all meantto reflect different aspects of a single theme.

Entropy is the first in the series and evolved prior to the terrorist attacks. It deals with inner conflicts and a purging of emotions through
a representation of the human body. This painting inspired the creation of the other pieces.

Being ripped inside out and feeling vulnerable to the world, leaves a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. Our personal tragedies fade to invisibility when compared to the world-stopping events that happened that horrific day in September. Not to say that any one single event holds more importance when it comes to a loss, but in the shocking way it took place, it could not be ignored.

The cycles of life and death and good and evil continue and we need to look beyond our comprehension into the depths of existence itself.
Compassion and empathy for the victims is represented before you. The paintings will take on their own meanings to individual viewers and
possibly relating to their pain as well.

These paintings come from deep within and expose turmoil with a subtle hint of tranquility. This body ofwork is a personal contribution to grasp the emotions of a captive audience.
